Amr Warda’s Atromitos Athens remain in fourth place despite loss to PAOK
PAOK entered the match in third place with 52 points from 24 games after a shock loss to Asteras Tripolis in the match that caused the suspension of the league. Meanwhile, Atromitos came in at fourth place with 47 points from 25 games after drawing 2-2 Panionios.
An intense match from the beginning saw both sides traded passes without causing much danger to either goalkeepers. In the 36th minute, Angolan international Djalma opened the score sheet with his seventh goal of the season.
PAOK added their second goal of the match early in the second half with former Sevilla man José Crespo scoring his second goal of the season. Although Atromitos attempted to bring themselves back into the match, they were unable to stop the Greek giants from getting the three points.
By the end of the match, Atromitos had nine shots in comparison with PAOK’s six. However, both sides had the same number of shots on target, two, from which PAOK scored their two goals.
The result puts PAOK into first place with 55 points from 25 games while Atromitos remain in fourth with 47 points from 26 games. Warda will return to the squad when Atromitos take on AOK Kerkyra on April 8 in the 30th round of league. Meanwhile, PAOK will hope to extend their lead up top when the host Platanias on the same day.
