Four Egyptians in World Soccer 500 Most Important Players on the Planet list
World Soccer magazine revealed a breakdown of its 500 most important football players on the planet list by nationalities, which included four Egyptian players.
Argentina, Brazil, Germany, France, Italy and Spain dominated the list with over 20 players, while Morocco surpassed all African nations as 11 of their players were featured on the magazine’s list.
Of course, Liverpool’s winger and the Premier League’s current top goalscorer Mohamed Salah was featured on the list representing his country along with Al Ahly’s Ahmed Fathi, Al Taawoun’s veteran goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary and Al-Raed winger Mahmoud Abdel-Razik ‘Shikabala’.
Salah is having a phenomenal season as he quickly became Anfield’s favorite after scoring 36 goals in his debut season, won a number of awards including the CAF Player of the Year award, Arab Player of the Year and the BBC Player of the Year award.
On the international level, the 25-year-old is one of Hector Cuper’s key players especially after his heroics guided Egypt to the World Cup for the first time in 28 years, fulfilling the dreams of millions of Egyptians.
Ahmed Fathi deserved a spot on the list after consistent top-notch performances with the Red Devils that helped his club win eight league titles, three CAF Champions League titles, two Egyptian Super Cups, two CAF Super Cups. With the Egyptian national team, Fathi managed to win three consecutive Africa Cup of Nations titles and is expected to represent the Pharaohs in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Same goes for the legendary 45-year-old goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary who has a splendid career which saw him play for Egypt’s top clubs Al Ahly, Zamalek and Ismaily. With the Red Castle, El-Hadary earned eight league titles, four Egyptian Cups, four Egyptian Super Cups, three CAF Champions League titles and three CAF Super Cups.
In addition to that, he won four Africa Cups of Nations with the national team in 1998, 2006, 2008 and 2010.
