Ali Maaloul out for three weeks with ankle sprain

Al Ahly will be without international left-back for three weeks due to injury, the Red Devils have confirmed.

The 28-year-old defender picked up an injury during his country’s 1-0 win over Costa Rica in the 2018 World Cup preparations.

And Al Ahly fans feared another injury setback, with the player already missing 12 league games this season due to different injuries.

However, team doctor Khaled Mahmoud has confirmed that the injury is not as serious as many had thought and the Tunisian will be out for only three weeks.

“Maaloul will be out of action for three weeks. The medical tests have shown that he has suffered a sprained ankle,” Mahmoud told Al Ahly’s official website.

Maaloul has made only 16 appearances for Al Ahly across all competitions this season, assisting five times in the league and the CAF Champions League.

The injury leaves Sabry Rahil as the club’s only available left-back after they have loaned Hussein El-Sayed to Saudi side El-Ettifaq last January.

Al Ahly were confirmed as the Egyptian Premier League champions with six games to spare and will face Tanta in their next game on Monday.
