Al Ahly boss Hossam El-Badry said that he asked club’s captain to reconsider his previous decision to retire after the end of the current season as the coach thinks that he is in good form to continue playing with the team.

In February, the former Tottenham Hotspur player terminated his contract with Saudi side Al-Nassr after spending less than six months with the Najd’s Knight and then decided to rejoin his boyhood club Al Ahly. The player announced that he will be hanging up his boots at the end of the season after his contract with the Cairo giants comes to an end.

“There is a chance for him to continue playing, I told him not to rethink his decision as he can stay with us for another season. I need him in my team,” El-Badry said in radio comments.

“I sat with him yesterday and asked him if he is willing to reconsider the retirement decision but he told me that he made up his mind,” he added. “I told him not to rush something like this.”
