Volleyball: Four Egyptian teams reach African championship quarter-final
All four teams representing Egypt in the Men’s African Volleyball championship have reached the quarter-final of the tournament.
The tournament is taking place in the Abdallah Al-Faisal hall at Al Ahly club and even though there were 24 participants, no Tunisian side participated in the competition for the first time in 37 years.
The competition has been dominated by Egypt for the past three years as both Al Ahly and Tala’a El Gaish were able to win it since 2015. The army side won it in 2016 as for Al Ahly they lifted the trophy in 2015 and 2017.
Al Ahly who topped their group after winning all of their five games without losing any set will be facing Kenyan champions GSU on Monday. The Red Devils will be looking to win the tournament for the second time running and the thirteenth time in their history.
Tala’a El Gaish finished first in their group with the same amount of points as Kenya’s GSU and they will be facing Kenya prisons in the quarter finals.
As for the Aviation, who play their first ever African tournament, they will be facing Alexandria-based side Smouha, who finished on top of group three after winning all of their five games.
