Harry Kane eager to snatch golden boot race lead from Salah
Harry Kane is ready to score more goals and take Mohamed Salah of the golden boot race lead to win his third consecutive award as he had just recovered from his ankle injury and returned to Tottenham’s squad.
Tottenham Hotspur’s star Harry Kane, who made a quick recovery from the ankle injury he sustained three weeks ago, will be facing a tough battle with Liverpool’s winger Mohamed Salah given that there are only six fixtures remaining in the Premier League.
The 24-year-old English striker came on in Tottenham’s recent 3-1 victory over Chelsea in the league.
The Egyptian international is leading the race with 29 goals while Kane is in second place with 24 goals. However, last season, the English striker was able to net seven goals in the final two games of the league to snatch the award from Romelu Lukaku.
“Salah has got a bit of a head start now, and we’ll see what happens. I can’t control what he does, so I’ve just got to make sure I prepare well for games and be ready,” he said. “Salah’s done fantastically, he’s a great, great player and it’s good competition. I had the same last year.”
He also said that he will be focusing on his team and his own game in the next period, and will wait to see what is going to happen at the end of the season.
Regarding his injury and speedy recovery, Kane said that he looks for the positives whenever something bad happens to him in football or life.
“It was a chance to get a couple of weeks’ break, refresh the other muscles, and get ready for the business end of the season. That’s how I looked at it,” he explained.
“I didn’t know how quickly I would be back, but I went away with one of the physios, did some rehab, and I knew last week it was looking good and that I would be able to step it up. Thankfully I was ready for the game.”
