VIDEO: Ismaily lead second spot race following win over Zamalek

Ismaily ended Zamalek’s unbeaten run in the after earning a 3-1 win in the 32nd week of the competition to lead the race for the second spot.

The Whites had won their last seven games and drew one in the league before losing this game, as for Ismaily they have now not lost for five games in a row.

Even though Al Ahly were crowned Egyptian champions a couple of weeks ago, both Zamalek and Ismaily are competing to finish second to secure a place in the upcoming CAF Champions League.

The White Knights were looking to compensate for their poor form lately especially after being knocked-out of the CAF Confederation Cup but Ismaily had other thoughts and wanted to make sure to grab on to that second place.

The game was balanced in its first minutes until the 15th minute when Mahmoud Metwaly’s header opened the scoring for the hosts after a great cross by Ismaily starlet Ibrahim Hassan.

In the 22nd minute, Ahmed Madbouly nearly put the scores back level but his shot failed to hit the target.

After conceding the goal, Zamalek dominated the rest of the first half and in the 30th minute Moruf Yusuf scored the equaliser after the Ismaily defense failed to properly clear the ball out of the penalty box following Hazem Emam’s shot.

Ten minutes into the second half, Ibrahim Hassan nearly scored ‘El-Daraweesh’s’ second goal but he failed to trouble Zamalek goalkeeper Ahmed El-Shennawy. In the 59th minute, the same player once again troubled Zamalek’s unorganised defense but his shot was saved by El-Shennawy.

After clearly dominating the course of the second half, Ismaily’s Karim ‘Bambo’, who was subbed-on in the 61st minute, scored his side’s second goal.

In the 85th minute, Bassem Morsy nearly put the scores back level once again but his header was brilliantly saved by Mohamed Awad.

Ibrahim Hassan scored his team’s third and final goal of the game after a perfectly executed counter-attack.

Following this result, Zamalek are currently third on the Egyptian Premier League table with 54 points, five ahead of fourth-placed Al Masry who have a game in hand. The Whites will be facing 13th-placed Misr El-Makkasa on Sunday.

As for Ismaily, they remain second in the Egyptian Premier League with 59 points, five ahead of Zamalek, they will face Tala’a El Gaish in their next game in the league on Saturday.
