Zamalek president cites reasons behind Ismaily defeat
Zamalek president Mortada Mansour has blamed the club’s administrative staff for the team’s 3-1 debacle against Ismaily in the 29th round of the Egyptian Premier League.
Zamalek lost to Ismaily in the league’s second place showdown On Monday. Mahmoud Metwally opened the score for the hosts before Moruf Youssef made things level, but Karim Bambo and Ibrahim Hassan grabbed the three points for Ismaily with the second and third goals, respectively.
With this result the Yellows have gone five points clear on the second place and managed to distance themselves from Zamalek in the race for the last spot that grants participation in CAF Champions League.
“The team’s defeat came after the players were informed about the detention of four of the Zamalek’s financial management employees by the club’s administrative staff at half time,” Mansour told a local radio station.
“This affected the team’s performance in the second half in a negative way after they appeared in a good shape in the first 45 minutes. Khaled Abdel-Aziz [Minister of Youth and Sports] is another reason for the defeat because of the financial committee which aims to destroy the club, Zamalek is living its darkest days.”
“Not qualifying to the Champions League is a disaster because the Confederations Cup is a useless competition. I tell Zamalek fans to hold any team in the club accountable for the poor results in the presence of Khaled Abdel-Aziz, we are living in a bad atmosphere that doesn’t help any cause,” he concluded.
