refuted recent claims that Egyptian giants Zamalek are currently in negotiations with the club’s striker to sign the Syrian star next summer.

Omar Al Somah, who joined Al Ahli coming from Kuwaiti side Al-Qadisiya in July 2014, played a total of 14 matches with Al Ahli this season in the Saudi Professional League and the King’s cup scoring 11 goals and making 3 assists.

“It’s hard for Zamalek to sign Omar Al Somah because his salary is very high and also Al Ahli’s fans love him so much,” the club’s media center official Adham El-Sharkawy said in radio comments.

El-Sharkawy also spoke about Al Ahly’s loanee Momen Zakaria who had a good start with the Saudi outfit netting six goals since the start of his loan. He was also named in the team’s Asian squad that will participate in the  group stage.

“Momen Zakaria is performing well with the team despite the presence of other players who play in the same position, also the coach chose to feature him in the Asian squad over big players,” he explained.

The club’s official, however, pointed out that Zakaria’s contract is only for six months without an option to buy which makes it harder for the Jeddah-based club to buy the player permanently as some reports indicated.

“Zakaria’s contract was a gift from the General Sports Authority and we can’t renew it,” he said. “Moving him permanently has to be through buying his original contract with Al Ahly.”

Al Ahli will meet league leaders Al Hilal on Saturday, 7th of April in the league. This will be an important match for the two sides as Zakaria’s side are only one point away from Al Hilal and aim to take the lead.
