Al Ahly joins Smouha, El-Gaish in volleyball African Championship semifinal
Al Ahly have made progress in the 2018 volleyball African Championship and reached the tournament’s semifinal to accompany Smouha and Tala’a El-Gaish in the same round.
Al Ahly made the penultimate round of the competition after defeating Kenya’s champions GSU 3-1. The Red Devils decided the first set 25-20, then the second set 28-26, before losing the third set 22-25 and the fourth set 25-10.
Smouha also joined the last four after overcoming Egyptian counterparts Aviation Club in a five-set thriller. The Alexandria-based club lost the first set 20-25, before winning two successive sets with 28-26 and 25-22, giving away the fourth set with 18-24 and winning the final set 15-10. Smouha will be Al Ahly’s opponents in the semifinal.
Libyan club Asswehly downed fellow countrymen Ahli Benghazi with three sets to one, to set a meeting with Egypt’s Tala’a El-Gaish who beat Kenya Prisons with three clear sets.
It is worth noting that the African championship is hosted by Al Ahly, with the final scheduled to take place on April 5.
