Egyptian Football Association ‘EFA’ executive director Tharwat Sweilam revealed that all board members agreed to renew the contract of head coach Hector Cuper ahead of the World Cup starts.

president Hany Abou-Rida announced before that Cuper’s contract will be extended after the World Cup, but it seems that the 62-year-old manager will be signing a new contract before the Pharaohs head to Russia.

“Before leaving to Switzerland, all board members agreed to renew Cuper’s contract and Hany Abou-Rida was commissioned to lead the negotiations,” Tharwat Sweilam said in radio comments.

The Argentinian coach led the Pharaohs for the World Cup for the first time in 28 years and guided Egypt to the reach the 2017 African Cup of Nations final.

“Cuper is not someone who cares about financials and he did not take advantage of the fact that we need him to lead the team in the World Cup,” he added. “He said that he loves Egypt and wants to continue working with us.”

Sweilam assured that during Cuper’s meeting with Abou-Rida, the coach pointed out that if financial differences with other offers were close Egypt will be a priority.

“There is a meeting between the chairman and the coach in a few days to discuss this and the contract will probably be renewed before the team’s next camp in May,” he said.

The executive director also denied recent rumors circulating about Fifa threatening to exclude Mohamed Salah from the World Cup for missing a doping test during the team’s camp in March.

“Everything that was said about threats to suspend Mohamed Salah are just rumors aimed to shake the national team’s stability,” he explained.
