De Bruyne votes for rival Mohamed Salah to win PFA POTY award
There are nine contenders for the PFA award, including Egypt International Mohamed Salah [The only Liverpool representitve], Man City quartet Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero, Leroy Sane, and David Silva. The list also includes Harry Kane, Eden Hazard, Romelu Lukaku, and David De Gea.
Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah are the most likely two names to win the award. The Belgian has been showing fine performances this season, leading most assists in Europe’s top five leagues this season.
Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah is currently leading the Golden Boot race and has managed to break a number of records since he joined the Reds last summer.
And De Bruyne said he had no option but to vote for the Liverpool winger, naming Salah, Harry Kane, David Silva, and himself as the four best players of the season.
“I voted for Salah for footballer of the year because he deserves it. If it’s nobody from our team I think Salah deserves it,” De Bruyne told BT Sport.
“I don’t know if he would vote for me, I’m fair you know, if he wins he wins.
“He is up there with Kane, me and David (Silva) for me. They are the four best players of this year consistently. I’m honest with my voting, he deserves it, if other people don’t do it I don’t mind.”
In a press conference earlier, De Bruyne has praised the Liverpool star, admitting he has been unbelievable scoring these goals in one season. He has also revealed that he deserves to win the award, insisting that Salah and himself shouldn’t be compared.
Both remarkable players are set to meet up in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League tonight at Anfield, with both teams eager to secure a place in the semi-finals.
