captain spoke about their World Cup Group A opponents Egypt who they will meet in the opening game on June 15.

The South American side recently won the China Cup friendly tournament after beating Wales 1-0 in the final. They will also face Uzbekistan next June as their last friendly before the World Cup, in which they will face Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Russia.

“The dream of winning the World Cup is the dream of any Uruguayan. We as players have the same feeling and we have to be cautious and consistent with the way we perform during the championship,” Diego Godin told local radio OcéanoFM.

That being said, the Atletico Madrid defender believes that getting a good result in the first match against the Pharaohs will be essential to qualify to the next round.

“Egypt plays well and presents solid team performance. Their coach provides order and tactical discipline, which is reflected in the good results obtained,” he added.

Godin also pointed out that Egypt’s star Mohamed Salah will come to the World Cup full of confidence after the great results he achieved in England with Liverpool this season.

“However, strikers Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani are showing impressive levels of performances. It is fundamental for the team that both players are physically well prepared when they arrive at the World Cup”

“It is one of the main weapons we have as a team. The more balls we send them the more they are likely to score,” the defender highlighted.

Godin also pointed out that head coach Oscar Tabarez has a tremendous amount of experience as he led Uruguay to four World Cups adding that he is a source of pride for all Uruguayans.
