Nigeria’s Junior Ajayi hopes to play for Arsenal

Nigerian winger revealed he’s open to contract renewal talks with , saying he is happy to be playing at one of Africa’s greatest clubs.

The 22-year-old joined Al Ahly in 2016 and still have two years left in his contract but he expressed his interest in remaining at the Red Devils for a longer time.

“I don’t mind renewing with Al Ahly,” Ajayi told Egyptian TV channel CBC Extra. “I still have a couple of years left in my contract but I would be happy if Al Ahly want to renew my contract.”

The Nigerian forward, who got his first national team call up in March, spoke about the possibility of playing in Europe after the World Cup.

“I don’t know what will happen in the future. I am currently focused on Al Ahly to accomplish our goals and I’m happy to be at one of Africa’s greatest clubs,” Ajayi, who helped Al Ahly win their 40th league title, said.

He went on to discuss the team’s chances in the CAF Champions League after the club qualified to the group stage. “We are better this season than last one in the Champions League. We understand it’s a tough mission, but we will work on winning the title for the fans as we know how important the competition means.”

The 22-year-old Nigerian forward revealed that Arsenal is his favourite club and that he wishes he could play there, adding that Thierry Henry is his favorite player. He also added that Egypt legend Mohamed Abou-Treika is his role model in Egypt. “He has magical touches and skills. I used to watch him with Egypt in the African Cup of Nation when I was in Nigeria and I like him very much,” he explained.

Right now, Ajayi, however, believes that Abdallah El-Said is one of the best players in Egypt. “El-Said is a smart and amazing player. There are also other players like Ayman Hefny and a long list of players,” he added.

Youssef Wael is a massive Al Ahly and Manchester United supporter from Cairo, Egypt. One of the few Egyptians who never really wanted to have a career in football, just played it as a hobby. Wael also played squash for 7 years.
