Al Fateh equalise to deny Al Nassr win
Al Zaqan’s late equaliser denied Al Nassr a crucial three points as Al Fateh clawed back from Leonardo’s early opener for the Knights of Najd.
Al Fateh XI: Al Mazyadei Hazzazi, Al Dawsari, Sharahili, Abdel Shafy, Alfehaid, Manoel, Al Zaqan, Sakala, Chenihi, Dos Santos.
Al Nassr XI: Abdullah, Khamis, Uvini, Hawsawi, Al Obaid, Al Jebreen, Fouzair, Sassi, Djabou, Leonardo, Kabananga.
Al Nassr made a dream start just three minutes in when a long ball over the top of the Al Fateh defence found Leonardo who produced an exquisite first touch to create the space to cut inside onto his right foot and finish with a powerful driven shot into the far bottom corner.
Al Fateh almost equalised midway through the first half when a cross ricocheted to Al Zaqan who rounded the goalkeeper before firing over the bar.
While Al Nassr dominated possession, it was Al Fateh who created more chances in an attempt to find an equaliser as they had 12 shots compared to Al Nassr’s 9.
The pressure eventually paid off in the 87th minute when a stunning through ball by Al Nadhri found Al Zaqan on the right wing who used the element of surprise to beat the keeper at his near post and equalise for the home side, as the game eventually finished 1-1.
The result means that both sides remain in their prior positions of 3rd and 4th respectively. Al Nassr are one step closer to securing an AFC Champions League place for next season which Al Fateh are also pursuing.
Al Fateh’s next game is against league leaders Al Hilal on Thursday 12th April at 7:40 Egyptian time.
