Omar Gaber: I had two offers but I preferred to join Bob Bradley
Gaber is one of three Egyptian players who will ply their trade in MLS this season, with compatriots Aly Ghazal representing Vancouver Whitecaps and Amro Tarek playing for Orlando City FC.
“It’s a big step for me to play in the MLS with a distinguished club like Los Angeles FC,” the former Zamalek player told MBC Masr TV channel.
“I had two offers when leaving Basel but I preferred to join coach Bob Bradley in the United States especially that we spoke about the move and how things will be when I go there,” he explained.
Gaber revealed that Bradley spoke with him about the move long time before it happened and that the Egyptian international was excited to join his current club since they first showed interest in him.
He assured that one of the main reasons for his excitement was that he will get more game time, something that is crucial for the player to be able to maintain his spot in Egypt’s squad that is heading to the World Cup in Russia.
On his experience with FC Basel, Gaber said: “I asked to leave in the summer not during the winter transfers because I knew that I will not be getting more game time.”
The player said that overall he was happy and excited at first when he went to Switzerland but he then realized that he will not be able to take part in most games which led him to start looking for new opportunities.
