Ehab Galal resigns as Zamalek manager following loss to El-Makkasa
Zamalek manager Ehab Galal has resigned from his post as Zamalek manager following the Whites’ loss to Misr El-Makkasa on Sunday.
The 50-year-old has been in charge of the Whites since only last January, replacing Nebojsa Jovovic, who was sacked following a league loss to Tala’ea El-Geish.
Galal has struggled since his appointment, leading the club in 16 games across all competitions, winning eight, drawing two, and losing six.
The Whites lost to each of Al Ahly, Al Masry, Ismaily, Misr El-Makkasa, and Welayta Dicha twice. They also dropped points against Entag El-Harby and ENPPI.
“I have handed in my resignation. I will not continue with Zamalek. It’s over,” Galal said following El-Makkasa defeat.
Galal had agreed a one-and-a-year-half deal with the White Castle after paying the release clause in his ENPPI contract. Before his stint at ENPPI, the Egyptian coach had an extraordinary season with Misr El-Makkasa as they finished second in the league qualifying for the 2018 CAF Champions League.
Zamalek were knocked out of the CAF Confederation Cup during Galal’s reign, falling to Ethiopian minnows Welayta Dicha in the first round.
The Whites also need a miracle to finish second in the Premier League as they currently sit six points behind second-placed Ismaily, who beat Zamalek 3-1 last week.
They also may lose the third place to Al Masry, as the Port Said-based club sit fourth, five points behind Zamalek, but Al Masry have three games in hand.
