Hector Cuper believes in Egypt’s chances in the upcoming World Cup, yet he finds the first place in the group out of reach with Uruguay’s current squad.

In an interview with Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, Hector Cuper spoke about Egypt’s chances of advancing to the next round of the in Russia and has clearly expressed his thoughts on the Uruguay side.

“Uruguay is the best [of the group], although the matches are never obvious, we will fight for second place to qualify and, if someone thinks otherwise, I will be ready to listen to their arguments in my office.”

Egypt will be facing Uruguay in their match of the group on June 15, before the meet hosts Russia on June 19 and the Arabian derby with Saudi Arabia on June 25.

If Egypt managed to qualify in second place as Cuper is hoping they will be facing top of group B which holds the teams of Spain, Portugal, Morocco and Iran.

Amazing coach. Full of confidence. Brilliant football and tactical finesse. Yes, aim for second!Let us all dream of a 0-1 against Uruguay, a 0-0 against Russia and a 1-0 against Saudi-Arabia ad hpe that’ll be enough to go through. I can’t wait to see Cúper’s panicked dying grandpa face should Egypt manage to score unexpectedly and against his match plan. After all, a man has to stand to his principles!

I think his just trying to lower the expectations of the Egyptian people and take some pressure of the team.
