Tunisia team doctor adamant Msakni’s World Cup chances alive


national team doctor Souheil El-Chemaly has insisted that playmaker still maintain his hopes of participating in the upcoming World Cup in Russia despite his tough injury.

Msakni came on as a substitute during Al Duhail’s final game in Qatar Stars League against Al Sailiya, in which the league champions won 5-2, and got injured few minutes later before being taken off again.

The 27-year-old was dealt a big blow after the Qatari club later on confirmed that he sustained a tear in his Anterior Cruciate Ligament and will miss Tunisia’s campaign in the World Cup.

Despite the news, El-Chemaly argued that Msakni’s chances of partaking in football’s most anticipated event is still alive and he is awaiting to undergo further tests in the United States and Canada.

The Tunisia team doctor added that the national team’s medical staff is in contact with a specialized American institution in diagnosing this kind of injuries, as well as other two experts from Germany and Canada, pointing out that the former Esperance midfielder’s injury is likely to be confirmed as a partial tear.

Msakni played four games with Tunisia in the preceding World Cup qualifiers, where he scored three goals and made two assists.
