Guardiola blames referee, claims Salah’s first leg goal offside
Guardiola was sent to the stands by referee Antonio Lahoz after he lost his temper claiming that Leroy Sane’s goal was wrongly ruled out by the flag. He argued that if this wrong decision was not made the game could have had a different scenario.
“I said it was a goal when the ball was passed to Leroy Sane. That’s why he sent me off,” he explained to the media after the match. “It would have been different to go in 2-0.”
Salah was able to score an early second-half goal which killed the tie, before Roberto Firmino scored Liverpool’s second of the game to secure an unforgettable win for the Reds at the Etihad Stadium.
“It’s different when Salah’s goal at Anfield is offside. It’s different when Gabriel Jesus’ goal at Anfield is offside,” the Spaniard added.
The coach concluded by congratulating Liverpool hoping they represent England well in the semi-finals since they’re the only English team still competing. The Reds will meet one of Roma, Bayern Munich/Sevilla and Juventus/Real Madrid. They will find out who their opponents are on Friday 13th of April.
