Al Ahly to face Ajax in celebration of Ghaly’s retirement
The Red Devils had recently announced that their captain decided that he will officially retire from football on May 11, which is the same date as their game against the Netherlands giants which will take place in the Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in the UAE.
“We will face Ajax in the UAE and then after the game, the team will travel to Uganda to face Kampala City,” Abdel-Hafiz said.
Ghaly started his professional career at Al Ahly after graduating from their youth ranks, then in 2003 he moved to Feyenoord. After impressing in the Eredivisie he earned himself a move to Premier League side Tottenham in 2006.
Failing to impress at his new side he made a loan move to Derby County during the 2007/2008 season, which proved unsuccessful which made him move Saudi side Al-Nasr, before rejoining Al Ahly in 2010.
He left Al Ahly to join Lierse SK in 2013 before returning a year later and last summer he rejoined Al-Nasr on a free transfer, however he did not last long there as he came back once again to Al Ahly.
Even though he moved from club to club his career was far from a failure as he was able to win his fair amount of trophies, most of them coming with his time at Al Ahly. He won the Egyptian Premier League four times, two Egyptian Cups, three Egyptian Super Cups, two CAF Champions League, one CAF Super Cup, one CAF Confederations Cup and one Africa Cup of nations.
