Al-Hilal crowned Saudi League champions after win against Al-Fateh

Al-Hilal were crowned Saudi League champions for the 15th time in their history after beating 4-1 in the final round of the Saudi Professional League.

Al-Hilal entered the deciding match in first place with 53 points from 25 games after drawing 0-0 with Al-Ahli last week. Al-Fateh came in at fourth place with 36 points from 25 games after drawing 1-1 with Al-Nassr.

Al-Hilal started the match with just one goal in mind, winning the league title, with Mohamed Abdel-Shafy and Al-Fateh looking to get a shock result. Syrian Omar Khrbin opened the score line in the seventh minute. Only seven minutes later, Khrbin completed his brace from Osama Hawsawi’s assist.

Al-Fateh had no reply for Al-Hilal’s dominance with Fathi Al-Jabal making a technical substitution in the 24th minute. The substitution made no difference as Khrbin completed his hat-trick in the 36th minute before Achraf Bencharki scored Al-Hilal’s fourth in the 40th minute. By the end of the half, Khrbin had brought his goal tally in the league to seven goals while Bencharki scored his third.

In the second half, Al-Hilal continued to dominate but were unable to take advantage of their chances. Al-Fateh scored a consolation goal through Joao Pedro in the 88th minute. By the end of the match, both teams had 13 shots, but Al-Hilal had two more shots on target than Al-Fateh.

The result means Al-Hilal are the champions of the Saudi League for the 15th time in their history, extending their record. Though the league season has ended, the Sharks will be playing in the last group stage match of the AFC Champions League on April 16 against Esteghlal.

Meanwhile, Al-Fateh finish the season in fourth place with 36 points from 25 games.
