Al-Ettifaq beat Al-Taawoun 3-2 in Saudi Professional League finale
Al-Taawoun entered the match in fifth place with 24 points from 25 games after beating Al-Shabab 2-1 last week. Meanwhile, Al-Ettifaq entered in ninth place with 33 points from 25 games after losing to Al-Ittihad 4-2 last Friday.
Ahmed El-Sheikh missed the match after announcing the end of his loan stint with Al-Ettifaq. Essam El-Hadary missed the finale after suffering from an injury as announced by the club.
A quick start to the match saw Al-Taawoun dominate in the opening stages. Their persistence was awarded in the 23rd minute when Abdullah Al-Shammari scored his second goal of the season from Abdulmajeed Al-Ruwaili’s assist.
However only ten minutes later, Mohammed Al-Kuwaykibi scored his fifth goal of the season from Filip Kiss’ assist to equalise for Al-Ettifaq. By the end of the first half, Al-Ettifaq had three more shots than Al-Taawoun, but both teams had two shots on target.
Less than 10 minutes into the second half, Osama Al-Khalaf received a second yellow card and was sent off. Mostafa Fathi was substituted in place of Ryan Al-Mousa in the 56th minute. In the 63rd minute, Tunisian forward Fakhreddine Ben Youssef put Al-Ettifaq ahead from a solo effort.
Nawaf Bo Amer scored his first goal for Al-Ettifaq and extended the team’s lead in the 78th minute from Hassan Al-Habib’s assist. In the 83rd minute, Cedric Amissi received a second yellow card and was sent off. In the seventh minutes of injury time, Ahmed Ibrahim received a second yellow card and was also sent off. Two minutes later, Abdulfattah Adam scored from the spot to cut Al-Ettifaq’s lead.
The results puts Al-Ettifaq in fifth place with 36 points from 26 games, while Al-Taawoun finish in seventh place with 34 points from 26 games.
