Elneny’s two assists help Arsenal survive CSKA Moscow scare
Mohamed Elneny’s two assists helped Arsenal qualify for the Europa League semi-finals by the skin of their teeth after a 2-2 draw with CSKA Moscow.
The Egypt international started the game due to Granit Xhaka’s absence and has played a massive part in the Gunners’ qualification.
Fedor Chalov fired the hosts in front after tapping in a rebound in the 39th minute, before Kirill Nababkin doubled his side’s lead. Cech parried a long-range shot straight into the path of Nababkin, who easily made it 2-0.
The Russian side continued to waste numerous chances, and Danny Welbeck punished them, slotting the ball beyond Akinfeev after playing a beautiful 1-2 with Mohamed Elneny.
In the final minutes of the game, Mohamed Elneny put Aaron Ramsey through on goal and the Welshman found the net easily, securing a 6-3 aggregate win.
Arsenal have now reached the semi-final of a European competition for the first time since 2008/09, and they will be aiming to win their first European title since 1994.
The Gunners will face either of France’s Olympique de Marseille, Atlético Madrid of Spain, or Austria’s RB Salzburg, with the draw taking place on Friday, April 13.
