VIDEO: Ittihad of Alexandria scores two late goals to defeat Zamalek 2-1
Ittihad Of Alexandria scored two late goals as they defeated Zamalek 2-1 in the 31st fixture of the Egyptian Premier League.
Zamalek took the lead early in the game, as Bassem Morsy converted Hamdy Nagguez’s low cross into the back of Ittihad’s empty net in the 19th minute.
10 minutes later, Mahmoud AbdelAziz came close to doubling the lead, however, his curled shot canoned off the post.
Just eight minutes after the restart, Zamalek’s goalkeeper Ahmed El Shennawy sustained an injury and Mahmoud ‘Gennesh’ came on to replace the Egyptian international.
In the 79th minute, Khaled El Ghandour levelled the scoreline as he slotted the ball past Gennesh from the centre of the box.
Just three minutes later, Ittihad took the lead through Wilson Akakpo who converted a crossed free kick into the back of Gennesh’s net.
The Whites failed to equalize before the full time whistle, suffering their third consecutive defeat.
Following the game, the White Knights occupy the third league spot with 54 points and will face Arab Contractors on the 18th of April. Meanwhile, Ittihad sits eighth with 39 points and will face ElGeish on the 16th of April.
