Salah wins Premier League Player of the Month for March, makes PL history
Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has been named Premier League Player of the Month for March after his impressive performances with the Reds.
The 25-year-old became the first player to win the award three times in the same season, after he won it in November and February.
He also became the sixth player in the Premier League history to retain the award for two months in a row after Robbie Fowler, Dennis Bergkamp, Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy.
He retained the award after he netted six goals for Liverpool in four appearances in March and claimed it ahead of Son Heung-min, Romelu Lukaku, David Silva, Cenk Tosun and Chris Wood.
The Egypt international scored a goal in his side’s 2-0 over Newcastle before scoring a super hat-trick in their 5-0 win over Watford. He also scored a late winner against Crystal Palace to equal Didier Drogba’s record for the most goals scored in a Premier League season by an African player.
He currently leads the Premier League’s Golden Boot race with 29 goals, four ahead of Tottenham star Harry Kane.
“I feel good to win it again, we had good results in the month so that’s the most important thing,” said Salah after claiming the award.
“I’m very proud to see myself fighting to break the [goalscoring] record for the Premier League. I’m thinking about each game. That’s my target, I want to score, I want to help the team to win again.
“It’s still five games to go, there’s a big chance, let’s see,” he added.
