Roma CEO: We have participated in Champions League thanks to Salah
Roma’s CEO Umberto Gandini has praised Mohamed Salah, saying his club qualified for the Champions League thanks to the Egyptian.
AS Roma have been drawn against Liverpool in the Champions League semi-finals after the Italian side produced a historic comeback as they beat Barcelona 3-0 to qualify on away goals after they had lost the first leg 4-1 at Camp Nou.
The Egyptian spent two seasons at AS Roma, scoring 34 goals and providing 24 assists in 83 games across all competitions, guiding them to the second place in the Serie A last season, which made them qualify for the Champions League this season.
“Salah is having an extraordinary season. We have also participated in the Champions League this season thanks to his goals,” Gandini said.
“He has expressed his desire to leave and that’s how it happened. But we did not forget how important he was for us,” he added.
Salah moved to Liverpool from AS Roma last summer for a fee around €42m and has been in scintillating form this season, scoring 39 goals while assisting 11 in 44 games.
The first leg will take place at Anfield on either April 24 or 25 before the Premier League side travel to play the second leg at Stadio Olimpico on May 1 or 2.
