Mohamed Elneny has been named Europa League Player of the Week following his masterclass performance against CSKA Moscow on Thursday.

The Egyptian is having his best season in England, he started to play more regularly for Arsenal this season after enduring a difficult start to life at the Emirates.

This season Elneny has made 30 appearances for Arsenal, scoring once and assisting four times, winning the club’s Player of the Month award for January.

His impressive form was rewarded with a long-term contract, and the Egyptian has recently revealed that he has no regrets over rejecting Arsenal exit.

“He a super-popular player and everybody inside the club loves him,” said.

“But he’s not only loved, he is also a very good player and he showed that in Moscow. I never wanted him to leave, I always wanted him to stay. I must say that we had demands for him but he always wanted to stay too.

“In the second half in Moscow he played in defence and then afterwards, when he moved back into the middle of the park, he gave assists. He works hard and is generous. Overall, I think he did very well,” he added.

Elneny had a pass accuracy of 94% whilst making 70 passes, and has won two tackles and two aerial duels and his impressive performance was rewarded with Europa League Player of the week award.

The Frenchman also spoke about Elneny’s red card against Southampton, which was rescinded by the FA and therefore the midfielder will be available against Newcastle next Sunday.

“And I’m very happy [about the red card decision] because I think it was a wise decision and he will be available for Newcastle,” Wenger revealed.

Mohamed Elneny played all of Arsenal’s games in the Europa League this season, helping Arsenal reach the Europa League semi-finals, where they will face Atletico Madrid.

The Gunners are currently sixth in the English Premier League and winning the Europa League is their only chance to secure a place in next year’s Champions League.
