El-Shahat nominated for Gulf League Player of the Year award
Egypt international and Al Ain midfielder Hussein El-Shahat has been nominated for the Arabian Gulf League Fan’s Player of the Year award.
The 26-year-old joined Al Ain on a six-month loan from Misr El-Makkasa last January, before the Emariti side decided to sign the Egyptian on a permanent basis last March.
He set the Arabian Gulf League alight with his goalscoring prowess, as the Egyptian managed to score seven goals and provided 12 assists in 13 games only.
Introducing himself with a debut goal against then-league leaders Al Wasl, before contributing to four goals [A goal and three assists] against rivals Al Wahda won the fans’ hearts and earned him a POTY award nomination.
He is having a lot of competition as the shortlist include big names, namely Omar Abdulrahman, Marcus Berg [Al Ain], Mbark Boussoufa [Al Jazira], Sebastián Tagliabué, Mourad Batna, Mohamed Al Shamsi [Al-Wahda], Fábio Lima [Al Wasl], Yaseen Al-Bakhit [Al-Fujairah], Youssef Kalfa [Emirates Club].
The voting process starts at 21:00 Cairo time on Sunday and you can vote for El-Shahat here.
Al Ain is currently top of the league with 47 points, four ahead of second-placed Al-Wahda, with only two games remaining.
El-Shahat’s side will face Al Nasr, Al Dhafra, while Al-Wahda’s two games will be against Ajman and Al Jazira, with Al Ain needing just one win to secure the league title.
