Former Liverpool and player believes taht will win over Egypt international .

Salah and De Bruyne have been the clear frontrunners for the award all season, and are currently believed to be the only real contenders for the award despite the shortlist including four others in David Silva, David De Gea, Harry Kane and Leroy Sane.

Speaking to BT Sport, the former England international said “I don’t think what has happened over the past few weeks will come into contention as the PFA votes were cast in February, and back then City had just won the League Cup, while we all knew they were also going to win the league, so I think he may just take it ahead of Salah.”

While Salah is clear ahead as top scorer, De Bruyne has had an exceptional individual season picking up 11 goals and 20 assists in all competitions while being the star man in a Manchester City side who are winning the league by a comfortable margin.

It should also be taken into account that while it is an award just for English based players, it takes more than just Premier League performances into consideration as it also includes the Champions League and domestic cups.

The winner of the award is scheduled to be announced on April 22nd, with Salah vying to be the first ever African born winner.
