Amr El-Sulaya hopes to join Egyptian national team in Russia
El-Sulaya is a key player in Al Ahly’s squad and played a total of 31 games with the Red Devils this season, scoring four goals and making one assist. He recently scored in his club’s 2-0 victory over Dakhleya in Egypt Cup.
“I wish to join the national team in the next period so I can have the chance to play in the World Cup in Russia,” he told Al Ahly’s official website.
“Of course, I understand and respect the choices made by the national team staff which is led by coach Hector Cuper and wish the team the best of luck in the next phase,” he added while pointing out that he is still hopeful about being called up to represent his country and make an important dream he had since he was young come true.
As for his recent goal in Egypt Cup against Dakhleya, when he found Junior Ajay’s pass and slotted the ball into the top right corner of the net to give the Red Devils the lead, the 29-year-old midfielder expressed his happiness saying that such goals are the result of his good performances during games.
“Coach Hossam El-Badry’s trust helps me excel, this in addition to the amazing support I get from fans which is a great motive for me to always work harder,” he said.
El-Sulaya made his debut with the national team in 2010 and made 20 appearances so far. The former Ismaily midfielder also played before with the U-20 team.
