El-Shahat: Al Ain were determined to beat Al Rayyan
Al Ain attacking midfielder Hussien El-Shahat has asserted that his side only focused on getting the win in their game against Al Rayyan in the final round of the AFC Champions League group stage.
El-Shahat scored the opener for Al Ain in their big 4-1 away victory over Al Rayyan in Qatar, with Omar Abdulrahman and Marcus Berg (twice) also getting their name on the score sheet. This was El-Shahat’s first Asian goal with Al Ain.
“Thank God we arrived focused, we could have played for a draw or a win but we wanted the victory,” the 26-year-old winger told beIN Sports.
“Al Ain is a big club and we wanted to win for the fans. Today we were calm and assured, we had the option to draw or win while Al Rayyan’s only opportunity was to win. We did well enough to win the match and we were determined to come out with that result.”
With their thumping of Al Rayyan, The Boss booked a place in the next round of the Champions League after finishing second with 10 points behind Group D leaders Esteghlal of Iran, and ahead of Al Rayyan and Saudi giants Al Hilal.
