Egypt U20 international Amar Hamdi set for FC Basel trial
The 19-year-old has exploded onto the scene after the departure of Islam Issa to Al Masry last January, replacing Issa as Al Nasr’s new key man.
He featured in 14 games this season, scoring his first Premier League goal in his side’s 3-1 win over Al Ragaa last Monday, however, he couldn’t help them avoid relegation.
And Hamdi confirmed that he will join FC Basel on a two-month trial at the end of the season, saying that his dream is to follow in Mohamed Salah’s footsteps.
“I have signed with Mohamed Elneny’s agent Alan Nazmy and I will have a trial at FC Basel after the Ismaily game,” Hamdi told DMC Sports.
Al Nasr will face second-placed Ismaily in the 34th round of the Egyptian Premier League on Friday, April 27.
“The trial may be extended to two months. Playing for Al Ahly or Zamalek is every player’s dream, but I want to play abroad. My dream is to follow in Mohamed Salah’s footsteps,” he added.
FC Basel was the club where Egypt internationals Mohamed Salah and Mohamed Elneny started their career at, before the duo moved to the English Premier League.
Ahmed Hamoudi and Omar Gaber also played for the Swiss giant, with Hamoudi currently playing for Cairo giants Al Ahly and Gaber plying his trade at MLS outfit LAFC.
