Walid Azaro sets record for most single-season goals by a foreigner
By scoring the decisive goal in Al Ahly’s victory over Wadi Degla, Walid Azaro set the record for most goals in a single season by a foreigner in the Egyptian Premier League.
Walid Azaro scored the winning goal for Al Ahly against Wadi Degla in the 28th minute of the match, his 18th goal of the Egyptian Premier League season. Azaro is atop the goalscorer’s chart for the season.
The record for most goals by a foreigner in a single-season was 17 goals, previously held by former Al Ahly striker Flavio of Angola and ex-Ismaily man John Utaka of Nigeria.
Utaka first set the record in the 2001 season, while Flavio matched it in 2007.
Azaro joined Al Ahly in July 2017 and has made 34 appearances for the club, netting 22 goals in all. 29 of those appearances came in the league, where Azaro scored his record-setting 18 goals.
