The Democratic Republic of Congo football league has been suspended after president of Congolese football association was arrested on corruption charges.

FIFA Council member and CAF vice-president, Contant Omari, was arrested on embezzlement accusations alongside three others on the background of $1 million that was requested from the country’s sports ministry to pay for matches involving the national team and club teams competing in continental competitions.

“Following these events Linafoot has suspended its championship,” the Ligue Nationale de Football said on their official website on Wednesday.

“They were questioned by the Office of Special Adviser to the Head of State in the fight against corruption, Luzolo Bambi,” the Linafoot statement continued.

The Congolese president’s special adivsor Luzolo Bambi ordered the investigation of the quartet over misappropriation of funds intended for the DRC football teams.

Youssef Wael is a massive Al Ahly and Manchester United supporter from Cairo, Egypt. One of the few Egyptians who never really wanted to have a career in football, just played it as a hobby. Wael also played squash for 7 years.
