Al Ahli have terminated the contract of their manager Sergei Rebrov and have replaced him with Tunisian Fathi Al Jabal, who will lead the team for the AFC Champions League round of 16 tie against Al Sadd.

The news comes following a disappointing end to the season in which Al Ahli failed to meet their target of winning the , which largely came down to a crunch match with eventual winners Al Hilal in the penultimate game of the season.

The most notable moment of that game was when Rebrov made a bold decision to sub off star striker Omar Al Somah with the game poised at 0-0, leading to rumours of an argument between the two.

Rebrov may feel slightly hard done by with this decision, as he had just commandeered the team to the top spot of their AFC Champions League group ahead of Al Jazira, Al Gharafa and Tractor Sazi, without losing a single game in the process.

His replacement, Fathi Al Jabal, comes into the club with a wealth of experience in Saudi football, having won the league in 2013 with Al Fateh as well as managing the likes of Al Shabab and Najran over the years. Prior to this appointment, the Tunisian had been out of work since 2016.

Al Ahli’s next game is in the AFC Champions League round of 16 against Al Sadd of Qatar, where they will meet big names such as Xavi Hernandez and Baghdad Bounedjah.
