Momen Zakaria nominated for AFC Champions League goal of the week

Egypt international and Al Ahli wide man has been nominated for AFC Champions League goal of the week for his sumptuous effort against Al Jazira in the final group game.

The Al Ahly loanee scored what proved to be the winner in the 20th minute as the ball came to him on the left wing before he curled it around the goalkeeper into the far bottom corner.

The other nominees include Omar Abdulrahman for his free kick to the far post against Al Rayyan, Sharof Mukhitdinov for a stunning half volley against Al Wasl, and Lim Seon Yeong against Kitchee who finished off an excellent team move with a fine finish of his own.

After selecting the nominees, AFC posted a poll on their website which can be found by clicking the link here. At the time of writing, Zakaria leads the poll with an astonishing 61% of the vote from just over 11,000 votes cast.

Should he win, Zakaria would follow in a line of Egyptian players to win similar polls this season, including Mohamed Salah several times domestically and in Europe, Mohamed Elneny with Europa League player of the week, and Sarah Essam winning Stoke Ladies goal of the month.

In the meantime, Zakaria will divert his attention to Al Ahli’s next game which is the Champions League round of 16 tie against Al Sadd of Qatar, who boast an impressive squad including Spain and Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez as well as Algerian goal machine Baghdad Bounedjah.
