Saudi Arabia prepare for the World Cup with Italy friendly
The Italian Football Association (FIGC) have announced that an international friendly is set to take place between the Italian national team and Saudi Arabia on May 28.
Saudi Arabia have qualified to the 2018 World Cup in Russia for the first time after 12 years and were drawn in Group A alongside Egypt, the hosts Russia and Uruguay.
Meanwhile, the Azzurri have sustained a shock failure to make the World Cup when they lost to Sweden in the playoffs 0-1 on aggregate, failing to qualify to the competition for the first time since 1958.
The Italian federation have stated in an official statement that Italy and Saudi Arabia will face each other at the Kybunpark in St Gallen, Switzerland.
“It will be the first match in history between the two countries and the first time that the Azzurri will play in the Swiss city,” the statement pointed out.
