Egypt’s FA to manage El-Shennawy travel arrangements for treatment
The 26-year-old is set to undergo surgery after his anterior cruciate ligament injury was confirmed, and will therefore, not take part in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Abou-Rida’s orders came after several financial obstacles that could delay the player’s departure to undergo treatment. Shennawy posted on his Twitter account that the surgery is set to be done in three days, but bookings of the hotel, flight and the money needed for the surgery are yet to be provided. He later deleted the tweet.
As a result, in coordination with the Ministry of Sports and Zamalek SC, Leheta stated that the Egyptian FA are ready to take care of any financial hurdles for the international goalkeeper.
The goalkeeper got injured during Zamalek’s game against Ittihad of Alexandria in the Premier League, which forced the coach to replace him with Mahmoud Gennesh.
El-Shennawy made 28 appearances for the national team, in addition to playing before with the Egyptian Olympic and youth teams. He was expected to compete with El-Hadary and Mohamed El-Sehnnawy for the starting spot in the World Cup.
