Al Ragaa, Tanta relegated as Wadi Degla clinches safety

and have officially joined Al Nasr as the three teams to be relegated from the Egyptian Premier League this season, leaving Wadi Degla in the safe zone.

Ahmed Masoud followed up his missed penalty to score the opening goal in the 71st minute for Al Masry against Tanta. Tanta would not go down without a fight, however, as Walid Hassan scored a free kick in the 85th minute to level the game. As Al Masry continued to chase Ismaily for second place in the league, they also continued to chase Tanta — scoring the winner through a free kick of their own just one minute later, and sending Tanta to the second division.

Meanwhile, Wadi Degla went down early against El Entag El Harby due to giving away a 10th minute penalty. Ibrahima Ndiaye equalized the game in the 25th minute, before a 69th minute free kick gave Wadi Degla the winner and safety in the competition.

The full slate of matches now leave Smouha in fifth place on 51 points and Zamalek in fourth on 55 points. Already relegated Al Nasr are joined by Tanta and Al Ragaa, while Wadi Degla’s win ensures their position in the competition for next season.

Very sad to see traditional clubs like Ragaa, Nasr and Salah’s city club Tanta get relegated and to be replaced by corrupted army and company teams. Our league is a joke.
