Jurgen Klopp: Ahmed Hegazi deserved red card
Liverpool were 2-0 up thanks to Danny Ings and Mohamed Salah’s strikes, but two late goals from Jake Livermore and Salomón Rondón, saw both teams share the spoils.
And Hegazi could face a retrospective punishment after punching Danny Ings in the ribs when the duo collided in the air and landed on the ground.
The incident was missed by referee Stuart Atwell, which frustrated Jurgen Klopp, who claims the Egypt international should have seen the red card.
“We had the situation early in the second half, Ings in the box, that could be a penalty, and Hegazi and Ingsy… I don’t know, you need a little bit of not even help, only the right decisions,” Klopp said.
He added on Hegazi: “I don’t have to say anything about that. I don’t know why he did it, but he did it.
“It’s a red card. But you see it, I see it, that’s not important. It matters only what the three or four gentlemen with the whistle say. We can’t change that.
“I don’t think that point will help West Brom massively, so it feels like a waste of points really! They don’t need it, we don’t need it. They are happy, we are not happy, we stay in the league, they do not. It makes for a strange situation!”
Liverpool are currently third in the English Premier League with 71 points, while West Brom sit bottom of the league table 25 points, eight points away from the safe zone.
The Reds’ next game will be against AS Roma in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals on Tuesday, April 24, while the Baggies will be up against New Castle next Saturday.
