Lovern: Salah still has time to break many more records
Salah has been in scintillating form this season as he returned to the Premier League last summer. He became the first ever player to win the Premier League Player of the Month for three times in a season and was shortlisted for the PFA Player of the Year award, along with his contenders for the Golden boot Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero.
The Egyptian star scored 40 goals so far with his team in all competitions and is expected to increase his tally in the remaining four Premier League matches and at least two UEFA Champions League games.
“The season is not over yet. Mo still has time to break many more record,” Lovern told the ECHO. “I believe he can do even better than 47. I told him…. actually I don’t want to say what I told him, but I think Mo will say at the end of this season what I told him.”
Salah is currently the highest scoring African player in the Premier League’s history as well as becoming the first player in Europe’s top five leagues this season to reach 30 goals.
“It was something important and I also told him I believe in him. I saw in his eyes that he also believes we can achieve great things.”
On whether he was surprised by Salah’s current form or not, Lovern assured that all that Salah did was not astonishing to him as things were clear before the season started and during training sessions.
“When you have a guy like that with that talent and that attitude on the training ground, it’s special,” he explained. “When you have a guy like that with that talent and that attitude on the training ground, it’s special.”
Regarding their special friendship and constant features on each other’s social media accounts, Lovern said: “Yeah, we get on well. Every day there are some jokes between us. It’s quite funny to be in the same dressing room as Mo. He’s such a down to earth guy.
“It’s enjoyable to have him as a team-mate. He’s a real team player.”
Lovern’s team currently sit third in the English Premier League with 70 points, only one behind second-placed Manchester United, but the Red Devils still have one game in hand.
As for Liverpool’s important game against Roma in the Champions League, he said that Salah is more concerned right now with the team’s clash with West Bromwich in the league.
“No, he’s just concentrating on the game against West Bromwich and hoping to score two or three more goals. We’ll talk about Roma after that,” he added.
