Manchester City manager believes his player deserves to be awarded the PFA Player of the Year award.

Coming off a fantastic season which saw Pep win the Premier League in a dominating fashion, the Spanish manager has insisted numerous times that midfielder Kevin De Bruyne should be getting the prestigious award.

“If he doesn’t win, then congrats to the guy that wins but from my point of view, when you are analysing 9-10 months, then no player was better than him,” said Pep after their game against Swansea City, which saw De Bruyne score a goal in their 5-0 win.

De Bruyne is included in a six-man shortlist along with fellow teammates David Silva and Leroy Sane as well as Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, Tottenham striker Harry Kane and Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea.

“In terms of the continuity and playing every three days in all competitions he was there. I am sorry, maybe with number, there are numbers guys better than him.

Du Bruyne has scored eight goals in the Premier League this season but his passing is where Pep gains his confidence. The 26-year-old has accumulated 15 assists this campaign, making him the top man in that category.

He is believed to be one of the favourites to win the award along with Mohamed Salah, who scored 31 goals for Liverpool this season, and he currently leads the Golden Boot race five goals ahead of Tottenham’s Harry Kane.

“But it is my opinion and the opinion of the players can be another one and if that has happened congratulations to the guy who is going to win – I would like to feel that he deserved it. But at the end in summer time we will be at home being champions,” he added.

The winner is voted for by the players from England’s 92 professional clubs in the Premier League and Football League and the results will be announced in a ceremony on Sunday night at Grosvenor House in London.
