Arsene Wenger: Mohamed Elneny injury doesn't look good

Arsenal manager is not optimistic about ’s injury after the Egyptian was stretched off during his team’s win over West Ham United.

The Egyptian international suffered an ankle injury 35 minutes into Arsenal’s 4-1 win over West Ham on Sunday after a challenge with Mark Noble.

Mohamed Elneny looked distraught as he was replaced by youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles and despite Arsenal’s medical staff playing down fears over his injury, the French manager is pessimistic.

“Unfortunately it doesn’t look too good. He has an X-ray, but I don’t know how bad it is. But it doesn’t look too good,” Wenger said after the game.

The Egyptian is having his best season in England, he started to play more regularly for Arsenal this season after enduring a difficult start to life at the Emirates.

This season Elneny has made 31 appearances for Arsenal, scoring once and assisting four times, winning the club’s Player of the Month award for January and the Europa League Player of the Week against CSKA Moscow.

His impressive form was rewarded with a long-term contract, and the Egyptian has recently revealed that he has no regrets over rejecting Arsenal exit.

Arsenal are set to take on Atletico Madrid in the Europa League semi-finals on Thursday, April 26, before facing Manchester United in the league on Saturday.
