Zamalek end winless run following win over Al Assiouty

Zamalek ended their five-game winless run following their 2-1 win over eighth-placed in matchday 32 of the Egyptian Premier League.

The win came just one day after the Whites announced that they have reached an agreement with Swiss coach Christian Gross to take over the first team duties team for two years.

Just one minute after kick-off, the White Knights opened the scoring thanks to Mahmoud Alaa header following a great cross by Fatouh.

Zamalek continued their domination and in the sixth minute Kasongo found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper but failed to trouble him.

The rest of the first 45 minutes was less intense as both teams didn’t have any clear opportunities and with most of the play happening in the midfield.

In the 21st minute, Zamalek’s Emad Fathi had to get subbed-off for Madbouly due to injury.

In the 59th minute, Mabdouly scored his side’s second goal after a great solo effort that saw him beat two defenders and the goalkeeper before putting the ball in the back of the net.

Two minutes later, the same player nearly scored his second goal of the game but his long range shot hit the crossbar.

In the 68th minute Al Assiouty nearly scored their first goal but their Omar Gamal’s shot hit the crossbar after a great through ball. Just one minute later Youssef “Obama” scored the Whites’ third goal but was caught offside.

Fifteen minutes later Kasongo was once again in a one on one situation with the goalkeeper but failed to score.

In the 86th minute, Omar “Saviola” scored Al Assiouty’s only goal of the game as the Zamalek defenders failed to properly clear the ball outside the penalty area.

Following this game, Zamalek are second on the Egyptian Premier League table. Their next game will be against Egyptian champions Al Ahly in the Cairo derby on Thursday. They will then face El-Entag El-Harby in the quarter-final of the Egypt Cup.
