Salah is a joy to watch, says Danny Ings
Liverpool forward Danny Ings believes his teammate Mohamed Salah deserved to win the PFA Player of the Year award.
Salah collected the prestigious award on Sunday night at Grosvenor House in London after beating off competition from Manchester City trio David Silva, Kevin de Bruyne, and Leroy Sane as well as Tottenham striker Harry Kane and Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea.
“He thoroughly deserves it,” Ings told Liverpool official website.
“Credit to him, because he came to Chelsea and had a difficult time there, then went away, worked hard and came back – and this is the reward.
“It’s all the stuff in the background he has done. I’m sure mentally it would have been very hard for him to come back and give it another shot. The way that he has come in and been so ruthless, for us as a team he is great to have. And for the Premier League, he is a joy to watch.
Salah had an unsuccessful stint at Chelsea, which he joined from Swiss side Basel in 2014. He got loaned out to Fiorentina and Roma before joining the Giallorossi on a permanent deal. Keen to prove himself in the Premier League, the 25-year-old joined Liverpool during the 2017 summer transfer window.
The Egypt international has been in an incredible form since returning to the Premier League as he currently leads the Golden Boot race with 31 goals, five ahead of second-placed Harry Kane.
“It’s evident that he has really worked his socks off to get into the position he is in now. It doesn’t just happen – it’s down to hard work and graft.
“I take my hat off to him and I’m sure everybody else in the Premier League does too,” he added.
