Daniele De Rossi praises ‘great’ Salah after semi-final brace
Mohamed Salah led Liverpool to thrash Roma 5-2 in the first-leg of the UEFA Champions League, scoring two goals while providing another two in a sensational night for the recently crowned PFA Player of the Year.
“We know Salah is a great player and also a great person. I’m happy for him, even if it cost us,” the 34-year-old said about his former teammate.
The young Pharaoh continued to break records reaching 10 goals in the Champions League, the most by any African player in the competition’s history.
“He has improved so much in the final third and is becoming as decisive as we all thought he could be,” De Rossi added.
The captain concluded by saying that Liverpool are on the same level as Barcelona and that his side wants to give fans another night like the one they had against Barca in the quarter-finals.
Salah is now close to becoming the first Egyptian to play a European championship final. He will also be hoping to become the only second Arab to lift the Champions League title after Algeria’s Rabah Madjer, who won it with FC Porto against Bayern Munich in 1987.
The Reds will now be focusing on the Premier League, where they are currently third with 71 points, three behind Manchester United who have one game in hand. They face Stoke City in their next game on Saturday.
