Elneny to miss rest of Arsenal season, will be fit for World Cup
The Egyptian international suffered an ankle injury 35 minutes into Arsenal’s 4-1 win over West Ham on Sunday after a challenge with Mark Noble.
Elneny looked distraught as he was replaced by youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles and it was confirmed that he will be out of action for three weeks only.
However, Wenger revealed that the Egyptian has a ‘little chance’ of playing Arsenal’s final Premier League game against Huddersfield on May 13.
“Elneny has a little, little chance to play at Huddersfield,” Arsene Wenger said.
“I think he will be available for Egypt at the World Cup but not anymore for Arsenal,” he added.
The Egyptian is having his best season in England, he started to play more regularly for Arsenal this season after enduring a difficult start to life at the Emirates.
This season Elneny has made 31 appearances for Arsenal, scoring once and assisting four times, winning the club’s Player of the Month award for January and the Europa League Player of the Week against CSKA Moscow.
Arsenal are set to take on Atletico Madrid in the Europa League semi-finals on Thursday, April 26, before facing Manchester United in the league on Saturday.
