VIDEO: El-Shahat scores as Al Ain reach UAE President’s Cup final
Hussein El-Shahat scored as Al Ain thrashed Shabab Al Ahli 6-0 to reach the UAE President’s Cup final on Wednesday.
Earlier this month, Al Ain prevailed 4-2 over Maradona’s side Al Fujairah in the quarter-final, which saw El-Shahat score a brace. Meanwhile, Shabab Al Ahli had defeated Al Sharjah 1-0 to secure their spot in the semi-final of the competition.
El-Shahat’s side are looking to win the domestic double as they’ve already claimed the UAE Pro League title for the 13th time following their 4-0 triumph over Al Nasr and second-placed Al Wahda’s loss to Ajman.
Al Ain got off to a strong start on Wednesday as they scored two goals in the early stages of the game and claimed dominance over the field.
The first goal came in after four minutes only as Brazilian midfielder Caio calmly netted the opener for his team following a pass from Swedish forward Marcus Berg inside the box.
Only five minutes later, Omar Abdulrahman sent a neat cross to El-Shahat, who ran towards the goal and perfectly headed in the second goal. The goal was, however, ruled out for an offside before the referee awarded it after checking the replay.
The 26-year old, who recently made his move to the UAE side permanent, has scored nine goals and provided 12 assists across all competitions with Al-Ain so far.

The Egypt International left the field on the hour mark to be replaced by Rayan Yaslam. Minutes later, the VAR ruled in favour of Al Ain once again as Marcus Berg was awarded a penalty after the referee checked the replay. Berg converted from the spot to make it 3-0 for Al Ain.
On the 73rd minute, Caio Fernandez completed his brace to seal Al Ain’s spot in the final. The Brazilian reacted well to Berg’s pass and sent the ball into the back of the net to extend their lead.
Al Ain were still eager to add more goals. Eight minutes from time, Ahmed Khalil was fouled inside the box to win another penalty and stepped up to add his name to the scoresheet. During stoppage time, Bandar Al Ahbabi received the ball inside the box and curled an unstoppable shot to score their sixth goal of the game.
Al Ain will now meet up in the final with the winner of Al Wahda and Al Wasl clash, which is set to take place later on Wednesday. Al Ain’s next encounter will be against Al Dhafra at home in the Arabian Gulf League on Sunday.
