Former teammate Yann Sommer: Salah evolved tremendously since Basel
Salah initiated his career abroad with Basel, spending two years with the Swiss giants which is the time interval that saw his breakthrough and was regarded as one of the best talents in Europe at 20 years of age. Sommer played two seasons alongside the Egyptian star.
“I only have good memories with him, he was a very nice colleague,” Sommer, Borussia Monchengladbach goalie, said recalling his time with Salah from 2012 to January 2014 before Salah left to his first Premier League spell with Chelsea.
“When he came from Egypt, he was rather shy, rather down-to-earth.
“He had some problems in front of goal but he offered us a lot of options in the game because he was very fast. He could already sneak into spaces where other players were not able to pass. It was already a big plus for the club,” he added.
The 2018 PFA Player of the Year, is drawing attention every day as he scored a total of 43 goals in 47 appearances in all competitions with Liverpool this season.
“He has evolved tremendously since then, he is more serene in front of the goal. It’s amazing,” Sommer said.
